Honey cake is the oldest and most famous typical delicacy of Madeira. A must have on any table for Christmas.
This cake is an essential Christmas tradition during this season. On December 8, the islanders celebrate the day of 'Nossa Senhora da Conceição' and start up the preparations for Christmas. By this time the previous year's cakes are tasted. This cake should be stored in a cool and dry place to preserve its quality and is edible for a whole year. The cake has a flattened appearance and round shape. The taste is sweet, intense, rich and exotic. Simply irresistible for those who are fond of intense flavours.
Ingredients: flour, animal fat, sugar cane honey, Madeira wine, ferment, nuts, spices and baking soda.
